Kim Sørensen’s (1953) interest for traditional steel ships was initiated when he as a boy spent at lot of time onboard DFDS ships on the route Copenhagen/Denmark – Oslo/Norway.

When Kim and his wife Louisa saw M/S NAVIGATOR for sale there was nothing to do – but to buy it and make the dream come through!

Under the name C. E. Krarup the ship was built in 1941 as a cable ship. In 1962 it was refitted as a training vessel for Danish naval officers.

After one year of planning the refit began at Aarhus Shipyard during September 2005 – February 2006.

Outside all equipment was dismantled, the steel was repaired, the hull and houses sandblasted and treated with epoxy.

Inside all lining and all installation was removed.

Tanks were renovated and new pipes fitted.

During the period February 2006 – September 2008 the interior part of the ship was completely refitted.

Lining and ceilings were fitted with rubber dampers in order to minimize vibration and noise.

The wheelhouse has been completely refitted in the original style incl new mahogany planks.

All traditional equipment: Main engine, switchboard, DC pumps, winches, lamps, fire bells, doors etc have been preserved and renovated.

Outside a new teak deck have been fitted.

The entire electrical installation has been renewed.

Leaving Lynettehavnen October 2008.

Arriving at Holmen October 2008.

New MOB boat and crane fitted.
